With the continuous improvement of material processing performance and terminal application requirements in industries such as plastics, coatings, adhesives, etc., styrene acrylate (SA) processing aids are becoming a popular choice in the field of modification due to their unique molecular design advantages. This type of additive significantly improves production efficiency and product quality through mechanisms such as optimizing rheological properties, enhancing dispersibility, and strengthening interfacial compatibility, and is known as the "invisible driving force" of polymer processing.

SA type additives improve the processing flowability of materials such as PVC and ABS by reducing melt viscosity (up to 40%), reducing extruder torque, and avoiding melt fracture. They are particularly suitable for efficient production of complex cross-sectional profiles such as door and window profiles and cable sheaths.

The rigid segments of styrene and the flexible segments of acrylic ester in its molecular chain can be selectively adsorbed on the surface of fillers (such as calcium carbonate, talc powder) or pigments to prevent aggregation and improve the uniformity of the composite material. For example, adding 0.5-1% SA additive to PVC flooring can increase the dispersion of calcium carbonate by 30% and significantly improve the surface smoothness of the product.

For example, profiles and pipes: shorten plasticization time by 10-15%, reduce energy consumption, and improve product impact resistance (such as the synergistic use of ACR impact modifiers).

Transparent film: reduces "fish eye" defects, with a transmittance of over 90%.

Coatings and inks: As film-forming agents, SA products can lower the minimum film-forming temperature (MFFT), improve the low-temperature workability of water-based coatings, and have lower VOC content than traditional solvent based agents.

Upgraded recycled plastics: In the PET/HDPE recycling system, SA additives repair interface defects, restoring the mechanical properties of recycled materials to over 85% of the original raw materials, and promoting circular economy.

According to Grand View Research, the global market for polymer processing aids is expected to grow at an annual rate of 6.2% from 2023 to 2030. Among them, SA products are expected to exceed 25% in market share due to their high cost-effectiveness and wide adaptability. The Asia Pacific region (especially China and India) will become the main driver of demand growth, driven by infrastructure expansion and packaging industry upgrading.
